Can I take this course?

Suitable for over 16s and adults with a keen interest in the make-up and hair industry and are considering a career as a freelance hair and make-up artist, fashion or photographic hair and make-up artist or progressing to hair and make-up for television, theatre or film.

What is included in this course?

The following units will be studied, alongside Maths and English if necessary:

  • The art of dressing hair
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Make-up application
  • Create an image
  • Themed face painting
  • Client care & communication
  • Body art design
  • Cut women’s hair
  • Design & apply Mendhi skin decoration
  • Shampoo & condition the scalp
  • Plaiting & Twisting hair
  • Temporary hair colour
  • Health & Safety

This is an evidence based qualification and your work will be assessed by observation of practical performance, written assignments and multiple choice examinations.

Entry Requirements:

  • Ideally Grade 3 or D above in English and Maths plus two GCSE Grade 3 or equivalent (BTEC)
  • Commitment to study maths and English if GCSE Grade 4 or C has not yet been achieved
  • Purchase of a uniform, full kit and text book prior to the course starting

Course Extras:

Alongside your Level 2 Diploma you may be eligible to complete enrichment activities such as;

  • Nail art or eye treatments.
  • Perform treatments on paying clients in our professional, realistic salon training environment.

What can I progress to?

You may progress onto a Level 3 programme or enter employment.

How much is the course?

The course is free for learners aged 16-18 on 31st August 2018.

Adults that are:

  • Are a citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) or other countries determined within the EEA, or Have the Right of Abode in the UK, or have been ordinarily resident in the EEA for at least the previous three years on the first day of learning.
  • A non-EEA citizen is eligible for funding if they have permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK, which is not for educational purposes, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of learning.

will be eligible for co-funding. The fee will be approximately £1800, payment to be made on induction.

  • This course may be free if you are unwaged and in receipt of certain benefits such as JSA, ESA or UC or have not yet achieved a level 2 qualification or equivalent. Please contact the academy to discuss.
